Installation art!

At the moment I'm working on two installation piece ideas, one is based  on the original inside the box idea with the reflective cylindrical shapes inside. This week I'm going to begin that in large scale, i found myself getting too bogged down in trying to make the smaller scale version first, and as my tutor said, ''just go and do it!'' so i am.

The second installation idea i wish to work on this week is one to do with light and shadows. I'm using my acetate with printed images on them to cover the cube shape and using a light inside i hope that if placed in a dark room the shadows and light on the wall on a larger scale will convey movement, I'm also thinking if possible i will have the acetate around the light moving.

Both pieces are based  on my original drawings of movement, which where then done in the photocopying process, which i used in the beginning and printed onto acetate. I'm trying out these two installations so as to see how these can be best shown conveying movement and motion. Also my aim is to have the viewers interact with these pieces. I'm finding it hard to say in words, so i will have images up very soon to show you. :)

3D.... bigger is better!!!

So after another tutorial i decided to take my distorted images further, i noticed that because i printed the images onto assetate that they where reflecting slightly with other images and pieces on my desk. I stumbled upon William Kentridge who played around with distorting images and using mirrors in his work. I was especially intrigued by his 'two heads' piece. In which he uses a mirrored steel cylinder, placed on a table with a charcole drawing. The drawings where distorted and the mirror reflected them normal. But, in my project i will be doing the opposite of this. Here is where you can find an image of this piece http://www.flickr.com/photos/art21onkacv/3863234671/ . Anyways inspired by this piece i decided to shape my originally flat images into cylindrical shapes. Then i made a box out of cardboard and tinfoil to place these reflective objects in, so that i could possibly find a way of controlling the light that entered therefor changing the reflections of the now 3d images. here are some images of inside the box :)
Now imagine this... what if i do these on a massive scale! Where the viewer could walk in and then become part of the reflections and distortions. Methinks an installation piece is in order :)

''use technology!''

After a tutorial i decided to move onto using technology in my project, i believe the drawings even though they did suggest movement slightly, where too still. I came across an artist called W.K who does street art, in his works he uses a method to create more movement. He photocopies his work and as it is photocopying he drags the image. So i have started using this method with my own work, but slightly different. Im doing it to the point where the original image is severly distorted, so to a viewer it would be unrecoigniseable. Basically distortion will play a major role in my project. you can find W.K's work here http://www.wkinteract.com/?cat=11 :)

< this image was the original sketch of a head in motion.

movement and motion

My project began with me looking at the movement and motion in the human body. I looked at the hands and legs and did analitical drawings which i then overlapped to create the illusion of motion. I've taken photos of a model in long exposure, i had her move towards the camera, away from the camera etc. experimenting with moving the camera whilst the model stood still and while she walked. My basic idea was to capture the movement and motion that we dont normally pick up on, in one shot! Using this idea i wanted to create something that didnt look like the human body. Something that when being viewd, a viewer would not recoignise what it was. At the moment i dont have my images to put up but i will upload them soon. But, if you take a look at artist peter jansens sculptures this should give you an idea, http://humanmotions.com/  Keep in mind though that im not trying to do what he has already done, im going that bit further in an attempt to make my work surreal.
